Maternal Grandmother's Obituary

Lucille Agatha (Aunt Lue) [nee Rutty] Barrett: Late of 3 Lincoln Road, Franklyn Town. Died on the 6th of October, 2000, leaving children Carmen [my mother, North Miami Beach, Florida], Cherry [Kingston], Valin [Kingston], Nellie [Bronx, New York], and Sonia [Kingston]. 12 grandchildren, 3 great grands, and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at Shiloh Apostolic Church, 55A Lyndhurst Road at 11am on Saturday the 14th of October. Interment follows at Meadowcrest Gardens. The Gleaner, Wed., Oct. 11, 2000.

All this puts me in a nostalgic mood. I remembered all the old army and war stories my father told me. He joined the Jamaica Infantry Volunteers (JIV), a militia unit, September 1944, and later, the Jamaica Regiment, First Battalion. Most of the older men that visit my parents' home are old soldiers, who "never die, they just fade away." (smile).

MVP TRACK CLUB RECEIVES SPONSORSHIP—10/29/05
The Maximizing Velocity and Power Track Club, home of the world’s fastest man Asafa Powell, was given a timely financial boost yesterday. The National Commerce Bank Jamaica Limited, presented the club with a $6 million check in a four-year sponsorship of the University of Technology-based MVP Track Club, which will help prepare athletes for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Top members of the club include Powell, World Championship medalists Michael Frater and Brigitte Foster-Hylton and Olympic gold medalists Sherone Simpson and Tanya Lawrence. Lee Chin, chairman of the bank, said he was inspired after watching the Olympics on TV. He believes the contribution will help the MVP accomplish its goals for the upcoming games.

Norman (1895 ? - ?)

Charles Theophilus Welsh(1896-1949), my paternal grandfather. Married Maud Foster, d. early 1950's.

Silas (1902 ? -1945), died in St. Thomas, Jamaica, killed by Chinese business partner.

Emmeline (1911-1984), died in Canada.
